This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our nation and the freedoms we too often take for granted. Their courage secured the blessings of liberty for future generations. Yet while families across Illinois gathered to honor those heroes and celebrate the unofficial start of summer, Springfield Democrats continued advancing an agenda that many Illinoisans believe moves our state further away from the principles of freedom, personal responsibility, and limited government. From new efforts to ban commonly owned firearms, to proposals weakening parental rights, expanding government-run healthcare, eroding local control, and burdening businesses with more mandates, the final weeks of session have made one thing clear: the supermajority is not slowing down. The question is whether Illinois families are willing to continue accepting the consequences of these policies—or whether it is finally time to change course.

Illinois State Representative Justin Slaughter introduced House Bill 4471, and the House Gun Violence Prevention Committee recently voted 9-5 along party lines to pass the bill. It seeks to ban the sale of any semiautomatic pistol with a cruciform trigger bar in Illinois. Slaughter called the bill “a consumer product safety measure”.
“Once again, Illinois Democrats are targeting law-abiding gun owners instead of focusing on violent criminals. This proposal is another attack on the constitutional rights of responsible citizens who follow the law and safely own firearms for self-defense, sport, and protection of their families.
Banning firearms that are commonly owned by millions of Americans will do nothing to reduce crime or make our communities safer. Criminals do not follow gun laws. I will vote NO because Illinois families deserve policies that address violent crime—not more restrictions on responsible gun owners.”
Rep. Halbrook remains committed to protecting Second Amendment rights and supporting policies that hold violent offenders accountable.
There is a lot of dishonestly behind Democrats’ argument for gun control, and when the government wants to disarm law-abiding citizens, we should all be concerned.
You can be sure that criminals will be keeping their illegal guns.

With only two weeks remaining in the legislative session, State Representative Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville) is raising concerns about the direction Illinois is heading under the Democrat supermajority.
“Nearly every day, one of us rises on a point of personal privilege to sound the alarm about the direction this state is heading,” Halbrook said. “Whether it is myself or my colleagues… we continue to raise concerns because the people we represent are living the consequences of the policies being pushed through this chamber.”
Halbrook said Illinoisans are struggling with affordability while confidence in state government continues to decline.

The phrase “boiling a frog” refers to a situation where gradual changes occur, making it difficult for people to notice the danger until it is too late. It serves as a metaphor for complacency in the face of slowly worsening conditions.
Governor Pritzker’s ‘Building Up Illinois Developments’ plan consists of at least five bills aiming to address housing supply and affordability issues. However, opponents of his housing proposals say that he is trying to give local control to state politicians in Springfield who don’t live in or know their areas.
Pritzker responded to their concerns by saying last week that decisions will still be made by local government units and his proposal is a very light change.
Then why do you need it or want it, Governor?
Illinoisans already know the answer to that question.
Forget mom and dad, Illinois State Senator Graciela Guzman (D-Chicago, pictured above) thinks she knows better than they do and wants to allow minors to consent to receiving contraceptives on their own. She introduced Senate Bill 3341 which would allow this, and it passed 37-19 along party lines through the Senate and now moves to the House for further consideration.
Opponents to her misguided objective point out that minors are not able to understand drug interactions and potential side effects (they can’t even get a Tylenol at school without parental consent) and that keeping parents out of important decisions like this would allow any situations involving sex trafficking or abuse to go undetected.
And while Illinois continues to circle the drain, inept Democrats are slinging around more bad bills:
HB4788- Breasted CPR Mannequins (they didn’t even spell it correctly in the bill- ‘MANIKINS’)
HB4844- Paid jury duty (forced on employers)
SB3273- Solar Powered Schools (sponsored by the same guy who wants to send texts to criminals reminding them of their court dates)
Illinois State Senator Mike Simmons (D-Chicago, pictured above) has introduced Senate Bill 2873, and his sweeping health care proposal is now moving through the Illinois Senate. The bill would extend state-run health insurance coverage to all Illinois residents, including undocumented immigrants. It would also create the ‘Illinois Health Services Program’ which would replace most private insurance.
Socialized medicine anyone? Ask Canadians how that’s working out for them.
The bill has not yet advanced through the Health and Human Services committee, but if it eventually gets approved by lawmakers and is signed into law, the program would take effect January 1, 2027.

Technically, summer begins on June 21st (Father’s Day) this year. But with Memorial Day now behind us, you’re allowed to get away with saying that summer is here!
Memorial Day is first and foremost a day set aside to honor U.S. service members who died in their military line of duty.
