Proof the Most Beautiful Kitchens Aren't White

You know the feeling when you walk into a well-designed space?

Something about it just “clicks”. Whether you feel at peace, energized, inspired, or calm. There’s no doubt that design has a direct impact on the way we experience the world.

Like art, interior design is meant to make you feel. As a designer, I see it as my job to bring to life the feelings our clients wish to have in their homes through use of materiality, scale, furnishings, and color.

For those of us reading this, chances are, we stand hand-in-hand on the same soapbox. So I won’t spend too much time convincing you that carefully crafting our environment is one of the most important things we can do for our well-being.

Of course, this can be applied to all types of design, but today I want to talk about the use of color and how it can be applied to kitchen design.

One, because I love designing kitchens, and two, because I think color is especially pertinent to designing a beautiful kitchen.

This post sparked from the many questions I get asked about cabinet color preference. So many people ask me: should I opt for white or cream cabinetry?

And I actually say…neither!

Of course we’ve designed plenty of white and cream kitchens at Boxwood Avenue Interiors, and they are beautiful - classic even. But one of the easiest ways to make your kitchen feel more luxurious is to use some color.

I was recently working on a kitchen design for a client in California, and I was really loving the way it was coming together.
