She can run my office, will be in office, someone I can come back from court and talk to. She can handle client issues, schedule, file, scan, help me prepare for trial.
Unfortunately, this means that my current admin, who I never should have hired, will be let go.
Kong gets to fire a woman he brought on at the end of September because he should have taken his time and never hired her.
In my defense, I had no idea what was actually going on with her behind the scenes. I won’t get into all of it, but the TL DL for hiring that I have learned is:
For a job like mine, you need someone who is older and experienced to help you with pitfalls. Someone reliable, dependable, and has a stable situation at home
My biggest issues have come from my employees (they are really 1099s) having a ridiculous amount of problems at home that leak into everything. Having to miss work due to court, being stressed due to court, working on the weekends on their court case and being burned out the following week.
Meanwhile, I don’t have time for this shit.
It will suck to tell someone holding a baby that their services are no longer needed. However painful, it is the truth.
I might be doing that twice this year, because if my in office secretary/admin is great and it’s easy to work with her…
And issues with my paralegal keep coming up….
Well, the writing is on the wall, isn’t it?
I like people. I am loyal to those people. My paralegal especially. I hired her a month prior to M passing. She has been with me through the toughest stretch of my life.
However, it is what it is. I have a high volume practice. I need people who can deliver and on time. I don’t want to constantly have to explain why their current priorities make sense, or wonder if they looked at my court calendar, or a variety of things that drive me up a wall.
Ultimately, my business problems rest with me. Either I get what I want, or I get what I deserve.
I deserve my current dysfunction. It is on me to fix it and deal with whatever comes from that.
Onward.
