After my latest Q&A, one request came through again and again: wedding guest dresses. More specifically, many of you are looking for something to wear to a wedding that’s “Western-themed,” “in the mountains,” or taking place somewhere that calls for a little more personality than the usual cocktail dress.
My interpretation of Western wedding attire isn’t overly literal. I’m thinking beautiful dresses in earthy colors, silk, romantic prints, lace details, fringe details, and silhouettes that feel at home against a mountain or ranch backdrop. Pieces that work with boots if the setting calls for them, but won’t make you feel like you’re wearing a costume.

I love the contrast of a beautiful muted green silk dress with minimal Western accessories. It gives a nod to the setting without feeling overly themed. I found two dresses that capture the same idea: a simple silk style from Reformation and a lace-trim DÔEN dress. For the more minimal silhouette, I’d add a Western belt, then finish with either a simple heel or a cowboy boot.
The second look leans a little more Western, but what really caught my eye was the yellow, I love this color against a barn or mountain backdrop. I love this incredible lace De La Vali dress, which honestly needs very little, and a butter-yellow Reformation dress with a sheer cape-like layer that feels especially perfect for a mountain setting, and the tonal yellow floral Reformation dress is also so pretty. I love the idea of incorporating a touch on animal print here so this leopard Liffner clutch fits right in, and a touch of earthy glam with these beautiful pearl and topaz drop earrings.
I kept coming back to this tangerine silk dress, but it wasn't until I came across this Pinterest photo styled with brown cowboy boots that it finally clicked. The boots ground the look and make it feel perfectly at home without taking away from how elegant the dress is. I've also included another beautiful corset-style gown in a similar shade, here’s another great under $100 option from Zara I came across before hitting publish! I included a contrasting teal silk slip dress that pairs beautifully with the rich browns of the accessories. Finish the look with the brown Liffner clutch and the Paris Texas boots.
This is where I’d have a little fun, especially if the dress itself is simple. A great Western belt can completely change the look, whether it’s turquoise and silver medallions, a black and silver concho belt, or something more unexpected like this cord style with colorful stones.
For bags, I love the idea of adding texture rather than matching everything perfectly: a beaded bag, a cute fringe bag, the Lizzie Fortunato Gala bag I’ve shared before, or a leopard Liffner clutch would all be so good with a simple silk dress. The pearl and topaz drop earrings are beautiful, the perfect little party heels that come in gold and silver, and these Paris Texas suede and leather cowboy boots might be my favorite find of the entire edit.
This is where I’d have a little more fun with the Western theme. Think fringe, embroidery, plaid, a fun skirt, great boots and shorter hemlines.
I love the chartreuse mini with beaded fringe for something playful, the gingham tie shoulder dress was the first dress I picked for this collage, and the green satin Zara dress belted to give it a little more of a Western feel. The red plaid Reformation dress is such an easy nod to the theme without feeling costume-y, and the brown fringe skirt is so fun. I love the black dress with cream floral embroidery for something a little different, and this brown knit dress with fringe looks soft and comfortable. Add a great pair of cowboy boots (how gorgeouse are these floral Tecovas?!) or a leather tassel bag and you’re done.
