Watertown Public Library, Room: Lucia Mastrangelo Meeting Room
Description: This event is run though the Boston Virtual Reality Meetup Group. This month, John Gagan will demonstrate how to model a simple dune buggy in Blender, starting with the default cube. We will then add materials to the buggy, adjust the lighting and render it in a simple background of dunes. This is a good way to learn Blender! After the hour-long demo, people will have a chance to work on projects together and network.
John Gagan is a six-year veteran in Blender 3D, four of which he spent as the head of the Boston Blender Group.
For those participating who are new to the world of Blender please-
Bring your laptops and preferably a '3 button mouse'

The father of virtual reality explains its dazzling possibilities by reflecting on his own lifelong relationship with technology
Bridging the gap between tech mania and the experience of being inside the human body, Dawn of the New Everything is a look at what it means to be human at a moment of unprecedented technological possibility.
Through a fascinating look back over his life in technology, Jaron Lanier, an interdisciplinary scientist and father of the term “virtual reality,” exposes VR’s ability to illuminate and amplify our understanding of our species, and gives readers a new perspective on how the brain and body connect to the world. An inventive blend of autobiography, science writing, philosophy and advice, this book tells the wild story of his personal and professional life as a scientist, from his childhood in the UFO territory of New Mexico, to the loss of his mother, the founding of the first start-up, and finally becoming a world-renowned technological guru.
Understanding virtual reality as being both a scientific and cultural adventure, Lanier demonstrates it to be a humanistic setting for technology. While his previous books offered a more critical view of social media and other manifestations of technology, in this book he argues that virtual reality can actually make our lives richer and fuller.
The Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center in Mesa, Arizona, is home to transdisciplinary graduate programs from two different schools at Arizona State University with courses from several other schools. The programs foster collaboration across fields through a shared core curriculum.
QQs=Quality Questions (worth pondering)
Imagine stepping into a complete mixed reality theme park—what attractions would you create to refine fun and excitement, and why?
What would be the impact if an AI wrote an entire movie script that won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay?
What if they could recreate classic, iconic films as unique VR experiences?
If you could call your imagination on the phone, what would it say?
