August and September are the quiet before the storm. Shoppers are already thinking about back-to-school gifts, cozy home refreshes, and yes — the early birds who start their holiday shopping before Halloween even hits.
If you sell handmade on Etsy or in Facebook groups, here’s what actually moves the needle these next eight weeks.
1. Update your listings now, not in October.
Search behavior shifts in late summer. People start typing “fall,” “autumn,” “cozy,” and “gift for her” into search bars. If your titles and tags still say “summer,” you’re invisible to that traffic. Go through your top five listings this week and refresh the keywords.
2. Restock before you think you need to.
The sellers who sell out in November are usually the ones who started restocking supplies in September. Handmade production takes time — plan backward from the gift-giving rush instead of reacting to it.
3. Photograph in natural light while you still have it.
Days get shorter fast after the equinox. If you’ve been meaning to reshoot your product photos, this is the window. Good lighting alone can lift conversion rates more than almost any other single change.
4. Price for your time, not just your materials.
A lot of women undercharge because they only calculate supply cost. Add up your actual hours, then decide what your time is worth. It’s your business — it should support you, not just cover your glue gun.
5. Build your buyer list before the rush.
Whether it’s an email list, a Facebook group, or just saved customer contacts, the sellers who reach out directly in November aren’t scrambling for algorithm visibility. They’re already talking to people who want to hear from them.
This season rewards preparation more than hustle. The women who quietly get their shop in order in August are the ones who look effortless in December.

With love, Fede and Maria
