While our kids were in pre-k nature camp my husband and I hightailed it to the movie theater on a Friday morning. 9AM, grab the popcorn and the skittles. We figure we were one of the first people in the general population to see Christopher Nolan’s latest epic.
Both of us had somehow avoided all the chatter (good and bad) before going to see the film so were refreshingly open-minded heading in. We had the entire theater to ourselves, big reclining seats, and a first row immersive experience into a world of honor, gods, dreams, and nightmares. It was phenomenal.
During the eleven years Chris and I were together before we had kids, we talked a lot. We went to art museums, watched movies, did book clubs, and lived in a brilliant alive world of ideas. Intense late night discussions is a love language we share.
But when you have two very chatty young daughters, an increasingly demanding menagerie of animals, and you’re just tired, those discussions can get pushed aside pretty easily. In order to make sure we kept our promises to talk about a movie, book, or idea, we started making some recordings after bedtime. (my love language is podcasting, obviously).
We have made a few episodes but we’re still finding our niche. I plan to release an ‘official’ new podcast series, with a full season under our belt, 10 or so episodes, in the fall. But it seemed like a shame to not join in on all the Odyssey discussions happening right now!
So here is a little bonus, released early - the chat we had the night right after we saw Nolan’s The Odyssey. No spoiler to say we loved it. I’m still thinking about the themes and there are many images absolutely lodged in my mind.
This recorded chat is available to paid subscribers. I really want to make a go of it here and I’m enjoying the opportunities on Substack so much. I truly, truly appreciate you supporting me (us!) and I hope these discussions are valuable to you!
Also, Chris is always the one everyone said should have been in radio! He has the voice for it! You’ll hear what I mean. I’m so glad we have the opportunity to do this together and share it with you.
Let me know what you think - and would love to hear your thoughts on the film!
Cheers x
Katie
