happy friday
welcome to this weeks friday five: my little ritual of rounding up five things that have made me smile, think, or reach for my phone to screenshot this past week ish… oops. somehow it’s been a month since i posted one of these. in my defence, i haven’t had a ton of new favourites to share recently, and the month of july really ran away from me. i swear it was july first, then i blinked and now we’re in the final week. where does the time go?! i hope you’re soaking up the summer while it’s here.
now lets get into what i’ve been loving recently—the little things that have actually stuck out in my mind.
here are this weeks friday five. i hope you find a new favourite!

i recently read the first book in the how to survive camping series, the man with no shadow by bonnie quinn. it was such a cozy and fun summerween read. it’s labelled as a horror, though to me it was not scary at all—i actually think it could have been a little spookier! but it was a perfect book to read this time of year, more of a cozy spooky than a truly creepy book. it follows our narrator kate who manages a campground that’s been in her family for generations, but this campground is quite unique, because it’s on very old land, and it comes with some very specific rules to follow! theres 3 other books in the series, and i’m very excited to continue with it.
i recently ordered this set in black and grey, and i’m tempted to get the pale blue polkadot one as well. it’s so comfortable, soft, and stretchy. i love that you can mix and match the pieces, and that theres a matching bra as well! this year i’ve been gradually overhauling my “home” clothes—my lounge sets, my pjs—because i’m 30 and sick of wearing weird ratty shorts and tshirts all day, but still want to be comfortable while feeling put together. i quit my job last year, and since working from home i feel like i really noticed how much my lounge and pj game was lacking!
i think i found my new signature year round scent. glossier you has been around for so long but i just took a chance on it recently, and i love it. this perfume is sweet but a little musky, making it perfect for an every day light scent. all perfumes change on each individuals skin a bit, but this perfume is designed to really be enhanced by you and your skin. the key notes are: pink pepper, iris, and ambrox.
i don’t talk about video games much here, but they’re actually a pretty big hobby of mine! i love cozy games to sink into and definitely replay my favourites at different points through the year. recently i’ve been totally obsessed with stardew valley once again. i have so many hours in this game, its by no means new to me, but i started a new play through on the steam deck which i have modded to add extra content and more aesthetic buildings and furniture. it’s been bringing me so much peace and comfort.
okay, okay. i know i started this post saying that summer is flying by and i want to keep savouring it. but i’m a fall girl through and through, and i’d be lying if i said i haven’t been excited for fall since june... so when we were out shopping and i spotted these cozy fall pajamas, i had to have them.
i do think retailers start pushing the next season earlier and earlier every year, and honestly, it’s still a bit too early for fall to fully take over the stores. but i also know that if you don’t buy things while they’re first out, they’ll be completely sold out by late august—that’s my excuse and i’m sticking to it.
and there you have it, my five for this week! as always, i’d love to know if you try anything on the list, or if you have your own version of any of these that i need to know about. see you back here in a couple weeks.
with love, kyla
ps. what’s on your friday five this week?
