happy friday
welcome to this week’s friday five: my little ritual of rounding up five things that have made me smile, think, or reach for my phone to screenshot this past week (or so). i started doing these posts as a way to slow down and actually notice the small things that give my life texture, because honestly, it’s really easy for a whole week to go by and have it all kind of blur together into one long to-do list. the good things happen—they always do—but without something that makes you stop and name them, they tend to just slip right through.
so that’s what my friday five is, a little act of paying attention. a weekly-ish nudge to ask myself: okay, what actually stuck? sometimes it’s a product I’ve been reaching for every single morning, or a recipe that turned out better than expected and immediately got added to the rotation. sometimes it’s a post or an essay or even just a sentence someone wrote that i keep turning over in my mind.
here are this weeks friday five. i hope you find a new favourite!

i have been in love with this little dress—well, actually it’s technically a nightgown, but i would totally wear it out. when i ordered it i didn’t even realize how similar it looks to this dôen dress that i love but couldn’t justify spending $468.00 on, so the fact that its $400 less is a huge win to me. i ended up needing to size down one size from my regular, so just keep that in mind if you get it! my regular size also fit nicely, but i liked how the size down was slightly shorter and not quite as loose (still flowy and breezy!).
my husband and i recently re-watched the back to the future trilogy. i had forgotten what a gem that whole series is! i love it so much, and i’ve seen it many times but haven’t watched it for around 5 years, and my husband had actually never fully seen the movies. let this be a reminder to re-watch a cozy comfort film. these ones are so great for early summer! if you’ve never seen back to the future…what are you waiting for?!
lately my husband and i have shared this guilt pleasure dessert. it’s so easy to whip up and tastes so decadent. i’m not even usually a dessert person, but something about a warm, gooey brownie with ice cream just get’s me. we use the ghirardelli brownie mix, which trust me, is so good. it doesn’t taste like a boxed mix at all. we bought a big box at costco which was probably a mistake but now we make it all the time! paired with ben and jerry’s vanilla ice cream, its the perfect sweet treat.
i recently decided to try a new daily moisturizer and wow i love this one. the dieux instant angel moisturizer is perfect for my dry skin. it has ceramides, glycerin, urea, and so many other hydrating ingredients. this moisturizer is so rich and plush but not overly heavy.
Caroline Beuley of fairy tales by caroline published this resource library for authors back in may, but it just found it’s way to my substack feed recently, and wow what a resource it is! she’s compiled a list of resources to help you learn to write better, publish your work, if you’re seeking community, writing for substack, and writing exercises to do. i started writing a book late last year, and it’s kind of been a back burner project since then—not something i am rushing to finish, but a project i’ve been loving working on in pockets of time that i know someday will come to fruition. her post really inspired me to keep going, and to pull that project from the back burner to maybe a slightly more forward burner. still not a project i am rushing to finish, but one that feels worthy of a little more attention than i’ve given it recently.
that's my five for this week! as always, i'd love to know if you try anything on the list, or if you have your own version of any of these that i need to know about. See you back here in a couple weeks.
with love, kyla
