The following is a short story from my auto-fiction sex addiction recovery memoir, I Can Only Give You Everything.
This is Part II. You can read Part I HERE.
It was the day after Juda threatened to walk if I did not recast Sandy as the lead. We were shooting in a pay-by-the-hour hotel room with cigarette burns on the curtains and a carpet so dirty it stuck to your shoes when you walked across it. Sandy was wearing a flesh-toned strapless bra and a nun’s habit, which made absolutely no sense because Mary Magdalene was a Jew. Jerry had brought it from his studio, convinced it would help her “get into character.”
Sandy couldn’t act, but she was beautiful. She had no bad angles. Her body had bulges in all the right places. Because of this, none of the volunteers could do their jobs right, and some completely forgot why they were there. The boom mic operator was so taken by Sandy that he couldn’t keep the boom out of the shot, and I was forced to take over for him. I was too angry to protest. Jerry kept telling her how great she was doing, even though she couldn’t remember any of her lines.
“There is no such thing as sin. You are what produces sin, from your ignorance.” I whispered under my breath. Hoping she would remember to say her one line in between flopping up and down on a guy we found at the bus stop outside of the hotel an hour earlier. Jerry had convinced him to play Sandy’s trick with a six-pack of beer and a free night’s stay in the hotel.
“Every nature, every modeled form exists within the other. Sin is produced when you act in faithlessness.”
“Cut!” Jerry shouted before wiping some sweat from his bald head. “Fuck, Delia. Can you stop reading her lines while we’re rolling? And keep the boom out of the shot.”
