Shopify laid off 20% of its global workforce at the beginning of May, and I was one of them. It was a shock, but I think of setbacks like this as opportunities. They are disruptive, shake up your status quo, your ego, your plans, your day-to-day routine, your worldview, and so many other things. They force you to hit the reset button on your life and reflect on what you want from it.
The most important thing about setbacks is what you do with them and to look at this as a unique growth opportunity you were given. Reflect, learn from it, and look forward.
I know for myself that it always had a positive impact on my life eventually.
If you don’t experience any setbacks, position yourself so you will. Push the status quo, take risks, make decisions, and stop doing things you don’t want to.
I don’t know what is ahead and while I'm a bit anxious, it is also relieving not to know what’s next and what my day-to-day routine will look like.
It will be a struggle, but that’s life.
