That whooshing sound must’ve been May… Yikes. 🤯
⭐️ I did announce the big (for me) preorder, but in case you missed it:
Two new books this month! 🥳 Because I finished two.
⏰ Big Time 1%
🎧 Final Heir 7%
✍️ Rewiring Democracy 35%
I crack open four different kinds of books on a daily basis:
A morning meditation book to launch my day with something inspirating or educationish before I write my Morning Pages.
An audio book to remind me to write to be heard as much as to be read. This pendulum swings wildly between genre fiction and nonfiction.
A writing craft or writing career nonfiction book of some sort. These are normally recommend to me by wiser, more widely read mentors.
A genre fiction book of some kind.
I pick these based on whatever calls to me next and I am glad Goodreads has finally acceded to my demand to create an official Did Not Finish shelf—because I have no tolerance for storytellers who don’t do the hard work or who waste my time.
A book is five-stars or DNF. In my cosmology, there is no middle ground. 🌟
If I were an evil capitalist scoundrel, this is where the paywall would be. All Book Shaman posts will always be free. Share this post with a novelist or writer of any kind whom you love or hate. I play for both teams. 😇 😈
Big Time is my new morning meditation because I’m a masochist…and who better to do that with than the queen of 168 Hours? Here’s to finding time abundance!
I listened to the most recent Soulwood earlier this year and kept feeling like I was missing some of the punchlines and easter eggs. Turns out, I should’ve listened to Final Heir first. Doh! Now I’m catching up and things that should’ve made sense are starting to make sense. Maybe?
I can’t tell you (yet) why this book is related to my writing career, but trust me when I say that Rewiring Democracy is relevant to my (and your) interests. I’m only 35% of the way in, but I’ve already got a ridokulous number of notes. 🤓 [p.s. You should read everything by Bruce, not just this one.]
This month’s fiction is a religious satire that I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. At the time I started reading The Beginning (Jessica Christ #1) there were exactly 666 reviews on Amazon for the book. 🤣 Which, of course, I find supremely entertaining. Because I grew up in a Christian vegetarian doomsday cult, the 60% that I’ve read so far has been hysterical.
I’m always looking for good books to add to my endless To Be Read list.
Drop a comment and tell me what I should add to my list next!
