Once you’ve slowed down and gained a fresh perspective, you’re ready for another layer of editing: strengthening what matters most and letting go of what doesn’t.
Tip #3: Add depth, cut fluff.
As you edit, ask yourself:
Am I being emotionally honest here, or am I just reporting?
Would this section benefit from more? A story, a personal truth, an admission, or a quote that adds richness?
What can I cut? Are there tangents, repetitions, or over-explanations that bog down the flow?
Here’s a challenge: take one draft passage and either add one vivid detail or cut 10% of excess words. You’ll be surprised how much more alive and focused your writing becomes.
