Earlier this year, I was invited to help Annotate stories for a new SolarPunk Lit Magazie called Tractor Beam and the first issue is now available to read for free online!
The first story I read was called “Rigland” by Suyi Davies Okungbowa. It’s the story of an African community forced to leave the land due to pollution. So they move to the nearest abandoned oil rig, the source of the pollution to reclaim what it took from them. This story is for those with a strong sense of justice. Read the story here.
The second story I read was “Half Life of Memory” by L.R. Lam about people who fled to an underwater city to avoid nuclear fallout. The main character explores the surface to see if it’s safe for humans to come back. This story features a complicated mother-son relationship, somewhat haunting. Read the story here.
A note: I do not have plans to release new episodes of the Book Club Podcast due to budget restraints. However, I do have a few book reviews that I will be adding in the next few months, so I hope this will continue be a place for people to discuss books!
