Hello, everyone! I hope the weather is starting to warm up and you’re enjoying more sunshine these days. Spring is definitely here in San Diego where we have our cool mornings and evenings, and super sunny afternoons.
So here I’m holding a copy of Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall—arguably the buzziest debut of 2025 so far.
As you can imagine, I had really high expectations for this one. But I didn’t quite love it like a lot of people do.
But it is quite an emotional ride, and I thought the ending was good. So while it wasn’t a book I fell in love with, I did enjoy aspects. But there are also elements I was not a fan of as well. Check out my full review here. And my book club questions here.

It’s time to check out my April book club list! This monthly list features three new releases and two older titles.
I like to provide the mix of both since some want to read the hottest new releases, while other book clubs like to select books that have been out in the world for a while (which also means less library holds and such).

Recent Book Reviews
While I love reading new releases ahead of pub dates, I took some time to read some hugely popular books published in 2024.
First up was The Wedding People by Alison Espach. While the cover and title seems like a light read, this is quite heavy at times, and deals with several serious topics. This is certainly not a romance, but not literary fiction either. It’s commercial fiction that really deeps dive into the characters. Check out my full review here. The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon is a compelling work of historical fiction featuring an 18th-century midwife. The mystery moves the story forward, but the heartbeat of the novel is getting to know the real-life Martha Ballard, an American midwife. Check out my full review here. Up next for me is Jennifer Weiner’s latest, The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits. Equal parts heartfelt family saga and behind-the-scenes look at fame, this is a story about sisters, secrets, and the power of second chances.
Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy is about the impossible choices we make to protect the people we love, even as the world around us disappears.
