normally my december playlist is really short because i’m just blasting o holy night all month, but no, there’s more this year. sorry rosa, i know you were just catching up. i’ll keep it light and brief in writing though.
fuckin loved marty supreme! took myself on a mid-festive-period afternoon with some chocolate coins. timmy chalamet is excellent, the plot is exhilarating, the music (tears for fears, peter gabriel etc) is banging. obviously entirely representative of what it is like to be a table tennis star. source: i played for scotland at the junior level in the early 2000s, lol. i imagine his hustles are exactly what my parents were up to to finance my competition trips (sorry and thank you!!!!).
having missed out on hearing her debut release in 2020, i learned about the keiyaa hype when i saw she was on the first release bill for we out here 2026. when i heard take it i thought ‘oh, i too could get on board with this hype’. and then when i sat down (well, stood up cos i was trying to get ready for a friday night on the town, and by town i mean going with josh to suzy and jack’s crispmas party — you bring crisps, i’m sure you get the idea) and listened to the whole of her hooke’s law album i was like ‘oh, i AM on board with this hype’. club music x experimental jazz x hip hop. think of this one track as just an introductory gateway, because it’s a rare occasion where i think the whole album is actually the essential listen.

alemayehu eshete, the ‘abyssinian elvis’, enormously famous in ethiopia for blending american rock with traditional ethiopian music and jazz. the best way i can think to describe this is like something that would get played on a bbc radio scotland evening programme, except the lyrics are in amharic. it’s so catchy.
anything else that has ever been described as ‘cosmic’ pales in comparison to zé e paraná, which has me feeling like i’m floating in some kind of retrofuturistic galaxy in a tight fit navy space suit where my limbs are long and my shoulders look fantastic.
nu italo disco with a great groove from berlin, released summer 2025. often i’m iffy on this kind of clean cut vibe, but the bass here is quite irresistible.
the album is good, it just took me 4 months to get round to listening to it! also the cover art is hot (and ironic, satire etc) and i’ve probably got another 6 months of not-quite-passing on testosterone before it becomes kinda cancelled for me to say that.
