picked this up while i was preparing for my set at shady grove at sidney & matilda in mid-april. it was the first track for a while that i then had to keep on loop for like a whole weekend while i ran around trying to fit in being a good boyfriend. lebo mathosa was a major kwaito star and bisexual icon in south africa the late 1990s and early 2000s, but tragically died in a car accident when she was only 29. the slow build is nice and then the drop is giving a similar vibe to layo and bushwacka!’s love story (?? is it? in my mind, anyway).

project out of berlin with an insane ‘ft.’ line up (theon cross, d’monk, more). got that exact spaced out deep dubby vibey jazz sound that i’ve been loving this year; see also bror havnes solo stuff and all that misha panfilov stuff i was goin ham for earlier this year.

i am really getting my regular hip hop and/or grime fix from olympia health and fitness: another one shazammed at the gym here. resting in between bench sets we were like ‘tom waits… at the gym…’ but it morphed into this banging track from bristol hip hop collective split prophets. i benched 42.5kg the other week!! with horrendous form tbf but i did get it up.
chin up progress: i can do a bodyweight lat pulldown (chad) and i can easily chin up from a jump, so i am focusing on scapular engagement because hypothetically i should be able to do it. just can’t get that first bit to click from the dead hang!! hoping that may will be the month 🤞🏻

wonderful ambient sounds that properly uplifted my mood during yet another afternoon of wrestling with r code to analyse/plot a bunch of data from my current work project. i literally felt lighter/calmer/flowing by the time the hare jaya jaya rama lyrics came in. a true pill.

nabbed this one straight off gabe’s half of the apricot ballroom worldwide fm show, which i believe he picked up at a chuggy sunday session at the golden lion in todmorden. fun to see the lines of connection and a tune effectively trending across the space! if you like it and you take it somewhere, let me know! the phone ringing is a perfect touch.

bit cringe to be putting the polka dot pointy nose meme band in this list but no lies i fucking love it?? if this came out in 2005 i would have been buying the album and ripping it to my ipod IMMEDIATELY, listening to it on loop at the robin’s brae bus stop on my way to go hang out on the street on a saturday afternoon. it sounds like mid-00s indie but with expansive dancefloor freedom baked in. no choice but to stan.

this month’s show flew by - i had a veritable stash of new sounds i was desperate to share, and it felt like so long since i’d been on air. almost all new releases spanning nu jazz, bit of funky stuff, jazz hip hop, electronic, brazilian disco. i love doing this show so much! thank you to everyone who listens; it’s just a total bonus to have a receptive audience :)
