I had the special honor and privilege to get to play in the David Cone Celebrity Golf Classic at Brooklake Country Club, in Florham Park, NJ yesterday to help raise money and awareness for the Ed Lucas Foundation.
Ed Lucas (1939–2021) was a pioneering blind sports journalist who covered the New York Yankees and Mets for more than five decades, becoming known for identifying plays by the sound of the bat alone. Lucas lost his sight at age 12 after being struck by a line drive during a pickup game in 1951, and went on to become the first blind reporter accredited by Major League Baseball. He earned an Emmy Award for his work with YESnetwork.com and was inducted into the New Jersey Sports Writers Hall of Fame.
Lucas founded the Ed Lucas Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that offers financial support to the blind, visually impaired, and disabled who are determined to be of financial need, funded through fundraising, solicitations, and gift-giving.

I have been a die-hard Yankees fan my whole life, as well as an avid golfer. When I got the invitation to not only get to attend the David Cone Celebrity Golf Classic, but play in it - as a celebrity - alongside many of the athletes I grew up idolizing - I was beyond excited. Names that attended the outing included David Cone, Bernie Williams, Rollie Fingers, Fergie Jenkins, Tom Verducci and many other ex-big leaguers and members of the NY Sports Media.
My scramble group came up just a tad short, we finished with a respectable -8, but had an absolute blast together. The festivities from the golf to the cocktail hour, to the dinner, to the memorabilia auction and the panel discussion hosted by Tom Verducci with Rollie Fingers, Fergie Jenkins, and David Cone all made for a really special day.
I want to thank James Fiorentino, Christy Ayala, and the rest of the team who puts on this event - it truly was a incredible experience and one I will never forget.
There is so much post-National work still to get done in terms of content and processing cards and inventory, however I did want to make sure I got a few key essential tasks done as soon as possible for you guys.
