Hi! I’m Steff, your friendly neighborhood person-writer-thing. I’ve been around this block for many years; a lot of people know me as a storyteller, some people know me as an archivist for fanfiction, other people know me as a political leftist with a distinct love of guillotines, and yet others know me as a desperate idealist who really loves people and wants to believe in the best of (almost) everyone.
One thing that’s come up many times over the years is people asking why I don’t write professionally. I actually have, believe it or not! I’ve been a freelance journalist and a paid columnist where, ironically, I was paid to teach people how to write better. Fiction, though, is another ballgame: I have yet to tell the original story that would make for a good book, though I do always have a few ideas kicking around.
In the meantime, though: How about this Substack? Subscribing doesn’t get you any exclusive posts (yet), but it does get you a chance to make a request every three months for a post or a sketch if you’re a regular subscriber, or a request every single month for the same if you’re a founding member. I’m also willing to talk beta reading or editing for paid subscribers, though obviously I won’t be posting any fanfic here. (I might be talked into doing fanfic reviews, though, which I don’t think are problematic, in terms of copyright and gift culture, particularly as all my actual posts are free for anyone to read.)
Anyway, here’s my shot at making a little grocery money on writing. I hope you enjoy it, and whether you’re a paid subscriber or not, I’m still glad you’re here. 💚💚
