Hi friends!

Tomorrow night we sit together under the full moon! Register here if you wanna come. We’ll be practicing with aspiration and the intentions we set loose on the winds of our lives….

Air is the one element you can’t see. You only know it by what it moves: a pine stretching sideways, trash skidding along the sidewalk, your lungs expanding in all directions.

Same with the winds of the bodymind. We know it by what it moves in our private experience: the thoughts and emotions that blow through, the clouds of confusion, and if we’re lucky, the occasional gust of invigorating clarity.

I like to think of intentions and aspirations as supercharges we can set loose on that inner wind. An aspiration untangles our chaotic, reactive blowing around and helps us to aim clearly, to move freely and responsively.

So tomorrow night, we’ll practice with one of the most primal sets of intention we can unleash on ourselves and the world. The Four Immeasurables: kindness, compassion, joy, equanimity.

In the current world-gone-fully-insane situation we find ourselves in, these four qualities can seem like a tall order. Between the unfathomable realities we see every day and the vitriolic hot takes that blow through our news feeds, there is SO much motion. Commotion, really. And so little clarity about which way to go.

The practice of the Four Immeasurables gives the winds of the bodymind new ways to move: Kindness opens up pathways that were closed by hate. Compassion opens the dark recesses we were afraid to tread. Joy makes us light and playful and inspired. And equanimity evens our keel as we go.

These four aspirations free us up (both inwardly and outwardly) to move in ways that are clear and daring and playful even in a world on literal fire. We become the kind of wind that can wear down a mountain.

Join me tomorrow! Deets below. 🙂

TOPIC: Aspiring Audaciously - The 4 Immeasurables

The Four Immeasurables (loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity) are the wildest aspiration there is: may all beings be happy and free from suffering, and may I help to bring that about. But held too tightly, each one becomes its own kind of pain. Love gets clingy, compassion fatigues into despair, joy gets giddy and untethered, and equanimity goes cold. We’ll move through all four as a turning wheel, where each one catches the last and keeps us moving along, open and alive.

DANA: This session is open to all on a PWYC basis. If you’d like to support this work, you can donate during registration or become a paid subscriber on Substack.
