I am so excited. Tomorrow, as we open up our 2026 coverage of Dallas Cowboys Training camp, I will publish my 1,000th post in the history of Sturmstack. I have no idea how it worked out like that, but it did.
Symmetry is the best for the obsessive compulsive types. And only those of us affected in that way would possibly count the essays and the days that have passed since we turned the lights on.
This one is my 999th – here is the official number of posts I have published in the 3 years we have been up and the 1,102 days that have passed:
I guess this is the answer when people ask how much I write over these three years.
333 posts a year (the number moves to 353 per year when we include special guests authors and such). The word count is close to 700,000 and my computer keyboard still works.
But, now we are on to Year 4 and I want to move some of you from the free subscriber bin into the paid subscriber group – who power the whole operation.
Three years ago last month, I was sent packing by the Athletic and the New York Times. It was the greatest disappointment I ever had (even if that sounds weird, but I really thank them for cutting me) because I was able to discover the beauty of my own operation.
My opening essay here - Essay No. 1, shown below, name-checked our guy, Luka. Oh, how the times change. Its been a crazy three years.
We thought it was all about the Cowboys – and to be fair – 64% of all of my posts have been about the Cowboys and the NFL Draft - 643 posts.
I suppose that also means that roughly 36% of my posts are not about the Cowboys or the NFL Draft - 356 posts.
Over 10% have been on the Dallas Stars - 101 posts.
Another 10% have been on the Dallas Mavericks - 96 posts.
About 6% have been college football - 54.
About 4% have been on the Texas Rangers (sorry!) - 43.
About 2% have been on golf and golf majors - 16.
I guess that means the rest are under the heading of “other” and make up about the last 50 posts.
Anyway, those 356 are what I have really enjoyed because the Athletic (and many of you) have just wanted Cowboys, Cowboys, and Cowboys.
It has been amazing in so many ways for me to write about whatever is on my mind and to hopefully find some things you really enjoy.
Now, I want to bring some new folks into the fold. So, whether you want to call it anniversary pricing or a training camp special, let’s do a special offer.
For the month of August, if you buy a paid subscription for one year, we will only charge you for the first eight months. $64 for a full year of everything we offer.
Basically, pay for football season (and a bit of draft season) and get the rest of the year for free. It comes out to $5.33/per month for the full year and coverage of everything I can give you, every week.
You can upgrade your free sub to a paid sub and have access to everything – or you can gift it to someone who you want to give it a shot, too. Either way, I would love to get you in the family! We are growing and perhaps this special will convince you to give it a shot.
Offer expires when August expires!
Thanks for reading Sturmstack!
