South Carolina Democrat John Vincent knows most political experts don’t think he can win.

He doesn’t care.

In a powerful interview on the Lean to the Left podcast, the retired Navy command master chief and small business owner laid out an aggressive strategy for taking on Republican Congressman Russell Fry — one of Donald Trump’s most blindly loyal allies in Congress.

And Vincent believes the political landscape is changing faster than many Democrats realize.

“People assume South Carolina is immune to what’s happening nationally,” Vincent said. “I think they’re wrong.”

Vincent argues that Fry’s complete alignment with Trump may actually weaken him among moderates, independents, and even some Republicans uneasy with MAGA politics.

He also believes Democrats make a mistake when they focus only on criticizing Republicans without offering concrete solutions.

So Vincent came prepared with specifics.

He says he would:

Fight to eliminate tariffs he calls “a tax on everyone”
Push addiction treatment initiatives to reduce veteran homelessness and suicide
Protect Social Security by raising the payroll income cap
Oppose deficit spending without offsetting cuts

That message, he says, resonates with voters tired of partisan extremism.

Vincent also discussed the enormous fundraising gap between himself and Fry, acknowledging he cannot compete dollar-for-dollar with Republican money.

Instead, he’s betting on grassroots organizing, face-to-face campaigning, and local engagement.

And despite the odds, he insists this race is way more than competitive.

“I think he’s backing a loser,” Vincent said of Fry’s loyalty to Trump.

Whether Vincent can actually pull off one of the biggest political upsets in recent South Carolina history remains to be seen.

But one thing is certain: he’s not running a traditional Democratic campaign. He has no fear.

And no quit, either.
