I like to overlay thinking models across my Agile Coaching mindset. Not all at once, but having an inventory of them and then bringing them into play when I need them to serve my clients.
An example would be Gustavo Razzetti’s Culture Design Canvas, the Agile Coaching Growth Wheel, or Bill Joiner’s Leadership Agility.
The metaphor that I often think of is that of a weaver patiently and skillfully weaving a tapestry. As an Agile Coach, I’m weaving a conversation canvas as I coach each client.
Some of the models I weave in all the time. The ACGW is one of these, as it guides my thinking around stances and dancing with my client. Others I use sparingly, weaving them in only when I sense that the timing and need are right.
But lately I’m thinking of the coach as a client influencer as well. And this influence is even more subtle, as we weave it in through our coaching presence. In this case, I might weave in ideas around—
Sustainability
Ethics
Regenerative Leadership
Diversity
Privilege
Deep Democracy
Appreciative Inquiry
And many other concepts during my coaching. It might be as subtle as me sharing a story from my own journey in one of these areas, or simply holding space for it within my Meta-skills so that I show up to amplify that idea.
As I’ve mentioned in my writing before, some core beliefs are emerging in my Agile Coaching journey, including—
The importance of the relationship.
The impact of modeling is my most powerful coaching stance.
The need to continuously be aware of and develop my self-mastery.
Develop a broad set of models that I hold loosely in coaching conversations.
The responsibility I have to invite (foster, example) more client awareness *this one*.
All wrapped around a human-to-human coaching conversation.
Stay agile, my friends,
Bob.
