$50/$100 rebate on Canon Poweshot/Printer combination

Through November 27th 2006, Amazon are offering a $50 rebate if you buy any Canon Powershot digicam along with one of about a dozen eligible Canon Pixma or Selphy printers. Canon is offering a $100 rebate on a more limited combination of cameras (G7 or A640) and printers.

Nikon D40 - 6MP DSLR

According to leaks from a German photography retailer, it looks like Nikon will soon be bringing out a low cost (under $500) "starter" DSLR, perhaps in time for the Xmas season. The Nikon D40 is aimed squarely at those buying their first digtial SLR.

Canon Rebates

The Canon Fall Rebate program has been announced. You can save up to $600 on an EOS 5D, up to $200 on an EOS 30D and up to $100 on selected lenses. The scheme is a "double rebate" program in which you can get double the rebate on each item by buying two or more different items.

Canon EOS 400D and two new lenses?

A leak on the Canon China website reveals the new EOS 400D (successor to the Digital Rebel XT), plus two new Canon "L" series lenses. The EOS 400D (Digital Rebel XTi) is a 10MP DLSR with dust removal features for the sensor and will sell for under $800.

Nikon D80

Full details of the new 10.2MP DSLR from Nikon - The Nikon D80. 10.2MP for under $1000 or under $1300 with a new 18-135/3.5-5.6 zoom lens. Looks like this one could be a real winner for Nikon!

What's coming from Canon on August 24th?

An Israeli website is running what seems to be a flash banner from Canon promising that they will be announcing something pretty interesting on August 24th...what will it be?

SanDisk Extreme IV CF cards

Sandisk have announced a line of the world's fastest CompactFalsh (CF) memory cards. Available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB versions, they are capable of read/write rates up to 40 MB/sec, enabling the downloading of a full 8GB card in just under 3.5 minutes.

Fuji FinePix F20

The Fuji Finepix F20 is a new small digicam from Fuji, with aperture and shutter priority shooting modes and an ISO range from 100 to 2000. Very similar to the Fujifilm FinePix F30, but around $100 less expensive.

Sony Alpha DSLR-A100 Preview

Sony took over the Konica-Minolta Digital SLR line and have now released the Alpha DSLR-A100. It's 10MP, it has image stabilization built into the body and it's priced under $900! In terms of price and features there's really no other DLSR which offers so much, at least on paper.

EF 70-300/4.5-5.6IS USM fix

Canon have announce a free repair for anyone who has had resolution problems with the EF-70-300IS lens when used at 300mm in portrait mode [see Canon News for 6/29/06]

Filters for Digital Photography

While some filters are equally useful for film and digital work, which ones are most useful when working in digital? These would include polarizers and neutral density filters.

Tamron 17-50/2.8 XR Di-II

A "hands-on" review of the new Tamron 17-50/2.8 XR Di-II lens for APS-C DSLRs. A good lens. Fast, light, sharp and under $450. Definitely an alternative to Canon's $1200 17-55/2.8 IS USM.

Canon EX series Speedlites

Canon Powershot SD700 is, SD630 and SD600 digital "ELPH"s.

Canon Powershot S3 IS

The Canon Powershot S3 IS is Canon's new "megazoom" digicam with a 6MP sensor and a 36-432/2.7-3.5 (35mm equivalent) Image stabilized lens. With ISO capability from 80-800 this should be a great camera for handheld shooting, even in low light.
