Accepting the Upset: Putting the Tiger to Sleep (Easier Said Than Executed)

Thursday morning starts with my usual rising ritual - a shower, coffee, and a meditation sit. Yet today, even after sitting, my mind continues to zoom all over the place. It jumps from self-pity to gratitude, hardly a calm state when clouded by speculative projections. I remind myself: the day will be what it is, I will be who I am, and the universe will orchestrate the outcome in perfect harmony. Life is Good.

So, how do I calm this restless mind?

Even with over thirty years of meditation practice, I still get upset and react to unwanted circumstances. Discharging these intrusive thoughts and anxiety often takes deliberate effort.

That brings me to a practice I’ve relied on for years. I remind myself that in this exact moment, I have everything I need. I am safe, I have my health, I can choose happiness, and I can step into the NOW knowing peace. A few deep inhales and exhales certainly don’t hurt the cause either. This, too, shall pass.

Namaste, my friends. May your day remind you that you already have everything you need in this moment, no matter how dire the circumstances may seem.
