Saturday coffee in the pre-dawn, sitting on the outdoor porch. High humidity and damp air, yet somehow deeply pleasant. A quiet meditation, enjoying each conscious breath. Meditation, coffee, morning silence, open air... Life is good.
I reflect on a quote by Gaius Musonius Rufus: “A person who can want for nothing in every circumstance is the only genuinely wealthy person.” I return to these words often. When I practice desiring nothing, I become that wealthiest person. In this state of complete contentment, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs dissolves into full self-actualization.
My intention is to remind myself with each step that I already possess everything. With each breath, I will want for nothing. Do I have it all? Yes, I do. Many might debate that, but I do not. Can I grow and improve? Yes, always. But in the acceptance of this single breath, I am truly wealthy, and the peace of that realization is heavenly.
Namaste, my friends. May you cherish your day, wanting for nothing.
