No, this is not a strange AI picture, this is Alex de Grassi playing a specially made instrument with multiple strings. It sounds like a guitar… the frets look like a guitar, but you can see that there are more than twice as many strings as a normal guitar.
What is the purpose of these extra strings? They resonate when Alex plays the same note on the guitar. If you’ve heard a sitar, it has the same effect. These strings resonate with multiple overtones that surround the melodies with luscious tone.
The track Shenandoah shows off the quality of this instrument played so beautifully by Alex. The instrument is called a Sympitar. This track was recorded to DSD without edits or overdubs. An incredible performance by Alex.
