“Nature is a wondrous thing. Allow nature to be your guide, your mentor, your shoulder to lean on. In turn you will feel held in the most profound ways.”
- Valerie Weyland
Can you remember when your first child was born? During the first few days or weeks, what thoughts raced through your mind?
How often should I clean my baby?
Should I feed them on a schedule or whenever they cry?
I’m exhausted, can I just sleep with my baby in my bed?
My mental health is declining, is this normal?
Then add in the input of others putting a significant load of pressure on mothers to be ‘perfect’.
Sometimes, we forget that nature has been playing a significant role in the creation and development of our babies.
Nature merged the egg and sperm and created an embryo.
Nature turned what was once only seen as a clump of cells into the shape of a baby in just weeks.
Nature formed their legs, arms, eyes, nose, hair, toes and mouth.
Nature formulated a process for us to know when to push, as our babies come out to meet us.
Nature created a calming effect where the once crying baby, calms down when they connect skin to skin with their mother.
Nature does all this without much involvement from us.
We’re simply expected to rest, eat well and stay hydrated and healthy.
Could it be that we may be unintentionally dismissing nature’s role once our babies’ are born?
Reflection prompt:
What role have you noticed nature play in the unfolding of your child’s/children’s live?
If this is your first time connecting with us, welcome :) The seeds of possibility are still sprouting as we speak and I’m interested in quietly sharing deep and intimate experiences. If that feels like home for you, I encourage you to subscribe.
