Nice to Krita

Posted 5:00 AM by Gerald So As I continue dabbling in digital artwork, I've begun using the feature-packed painting program Krita. A few weeks ago, I traced a photo of myself as a reference for a new front-facing vector avatar: Image by Gerald So I think it's an improvement over the best one I made without a reference following YouTube tutorials: Image by Gerald So Here's another vector avatar…

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE (2026)

Posted 2:30 PM by Gerald So Before its poor review buzz, I thought I might convince some college friends to see Travis Knight's MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE in theaters. Instead, I watched it today on Prime Video and I feel nostalgic for the days we went to fun movies for fun. Remember when movies with silly premises and sketchy acting had no less chance to be blockbusters? If people wanted to have fun…

Hotel California

Posted 5:30 AM by Gerald So Photo by Ritesh Singh from Pexels My brother and I flew to Los Angeles last Thursday for our cousin's wedding Friday and back to New York yesterday. I would've liked more time to see the city, not just the bit by our hotel in Buena Park. Thanks to another cousin, dinners for forty-two at two Vietnamese restaurants did come together in a flash. Our travel on JetBlue was…

The Knicks of Time

Posted 12:00 M by Gerald So Following up Wednesday night's 29-point comeback win, the New York Knicks closed out the 2026 NBA Finals tonight 94-90. It's been so long, I didn't want to post until all was said and done. Banner by Gerald So This playoff run reminded me of the dominant 1998 Yankees and the breakthrough 1996 Yankees, even-keel Mike Brown taking over for Tom Thibodeaux as Joe Torre…

On the Nose

Posted 3:30 PM by Gerald So Shortly after I joined Bluesky last year, I wanted to make my own cartoon avatar, not pay someone else to make it nor upload a photo to a cartoon generator. First, I tried to apply my offline image editing program's cartoon filter and Inkscape's multi-scan Trace Bitmap: Photo and image by Gerald So Not only did it make a high-memory, complicated vector, a friend said it…

Close to Home

Posted 7:00 AM by Gerald So Jacket design: Henry Sene Yee Shopping on Independent Bookstore Day, I browsed this year's Edgar Awards nominees and bought Celadon Books' JOHNNY CARELESS , the first novel by Kevin Wade, playwright, screenwriter, and a longtime producer on CBS's Blue Bloods . Superman Day

Posted 4:00 PM by Gerald So Image by Gerald So For the second year in a row, DC Comics is celebrating Superman today, the anniversary of Action Comics #1 in 1938. I've dressed my avatar for the occasion. Note the curl, bit of cape, and eyes heating up.

Topo? Arigato.

Posted 4:00 PM by Gerald So A recent corn on the pinky toe of my left foot led me to learn what causes corns, how to home-remedy them, and how to prevent them. I already wear wide toe box shoes, but the corn painfully told me my everyday pair (ASICS Gel-Kayano 30) wouldn't do. Along with roomier toe boxes, I wanted decent cushioning and low drop. Topo Atmos delivered all three. Photo by Gerald So
