Why did I stop writing?

One look at the website this is on shows something obvious: I do not write as much anymore. Even when I was not doing the 100 Days to Offload challenge, I would still write on this page somewhat frequently. Why did I stop doing that?

The answer is probably simple, yet also the most boring one: I am busy now. I have a pretty demanding job, and it is writing intensive too. Whatever desire I have to write is very much satiated by my day job. One might argue that it is oversatiated now. I write pages upon pages of legal writings after doing copious amounts of research that thoroughly exhaust me by the end of the workday. My commute, which is about an hour each way, is another time sink. My weekends largely comprise doing something the little time I have “free” or doing the tasks I did not do after getting back from work. Being here for six months, I have a schedule of doing things, even set to reminders on my calendar so I make sure to do X at Y time. I rarely do much more. The days I go out to do something other than get groceries are few and far between. Recently, I used the World Cup as an excuse to go out to a local pub or bar. Now, what excuse do I have? I can drink cheaper in my apartment. Sure, I would be alone, but I rarely talked to anyone at the pub to begin with. I seem to have a naturally repelling aura. 99% of the time, that is exactly what I want, anyway.

Is it really that simple? Probably not. I am probably just making an excuse. I could write in my free time. I could bring my laptop and use it for writing. As a matter of fact, that is what I am doing right now. I am writing this as I careen through the vast metro the city I live in contains. Putting my laptop on its namesake scrunched next to other people is certainly a challenge. I doubt it is all that “worth it”, whatever that means. The only other things I would normally do are listen to whatever while either people watching, watching the underground world go by through a window, or read something on either my phone or e-reader (95% my phone).

Last August, I went out of my way to write something every day through the entire month. Now that it is already a few days into August, I have already failed the challenge I wanted to set for myself. Maybe I will just write into September again to make up for it. Who knows!

Most days I will probably have absolutely no clue what to write. Maybe that will make it more fun* anyway. Like I said on one of the first offload posts, coming up with what is so much harder than actually doing.

*Aside: is funner a word? The spell checker I am using (which I will write about more in due time) says that it is preferred over “more fun”. I have never once seen that in my life.

I cannot think of a good way to end this, so it will end right here.
