A Timely Follow-up For You! Authoritarianism and Investor Risk, Redux

Greetings from those of us still swirling in the joyous aftermath of what can only be called a great World Cup! While our favorite and hometown team of Norway didn’t quite win in the end, they did way better than many (of me?) had feared and the process of watching so many matches back to back across the North American continent was truly exciting! Thanks for playing!

All that said, it is now back to work for all us busy beavers building new dams and spillways to channel our nation’s present energies toward more productive ends than we seem to be moving in this particular moment.

But wait!

Our team continues to show up, play well and move toward our ultimate goal of defending democracy and rule of law. All we need are the team shirts, some splashy artwork and a theme song—which I assume someone somewhere in our community is already producing!!

Recently, I was really pleased to see this piece from our friends at The Steady State (a network of former State Department folks doing God’s work) who shared this great piece entitled Strategic Business Risk Assessment: Growing Authoritarianism and American Business. We really need more folks from the business community to step up and have their voices heard affirming our core, fundamental principles of transparency in government, the importance of rule of law, and our fight against crony capitalism and the Tammany Trump Hall of 2026.

Coming from the operating business perspective, the Steady State piece nicely complements our previous piece on the implications for capital investors of our nation’s drift, entitled Authoritarianism as investor risk which we previously released on this Stack.

That post was one of our most discussed and resulted in our doing a pretty spiffy webinar with our friends at Business Response to Authoritarian Threats. And if you can’t make your way through either of those, you might enjoying flipping through the short deck I put together to try to keep us all on the same page when it comes to terms and discussion topics related to investor risk and authoritarianism.
