Lt. Governor Ghazala Hashmi to Launch Statewide Listening Tour on Proposed Dominion-NextEra Merger
Lt. Governor to hold community conversations in Loudoun, Hampton Roads, Richmond, Charlottesville, and Roanoke. The first stop will be in Loudoun in early September.

Lieutenant Governor Ghazala Hashmi announced today that she will launch an Energy Costs Listening Tour. The tour will be a series of community conversations across Virginia focused on the proposed takeover of Dominion Energy by NextEra Energy and what it could mean for utility bills, communities, and the Commonwealth’s energy future.
The proposed $67 billion merger between Virginia-based Dominion Energy and Florida-based NextEra Energy aims to create the largest electric utility in the U.S. The proposed merger was announced in May 2026, the deal faces intense regulatory and political scrutiny in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
