Tonight, I’m headed to Yankee Stadium for a celebration thirty years in the making. In about four hours, I will be standing next my best friend in awe. Yep, Mr. Jay-Z will hit the stage and we will be there with our Roc Nation hands in the air paying homage to the man, the myth the legend.
Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt turns 30 this year, and fans are gathering in the Bronx to celebrate one of hip-hop’s most iconic albums. It’s the kind of New York moment you don’t want to miss—a summer night, a legendary artist, and a stadium full of people ready to relive the music that helped define an era.
And you know me.
While most people are talking about the setlist, surprise guests, and which Reasonable Doubt track they’re hoping to hear, I’m wondering something else:
What’s on the menu?
Earlier this year, I put together a guide to vegan and plant-forward food at SXSW, proving that even one of the country’s biggest festivals had options for people who wanted to eat more plants. Since then, I’ve continued my unofficial mission to seek out plant-based food wherever I go—from festivals to stadiums and everywhere in between.
So tonight, I’m taking that same energy to Yankee Stadium.
Because one of the biggest myths about plant-based living is that you have to put your life on hold to do it. That somehow concerts, sporting events, vacations, and spontaneous summer adventures are off limits.
Not on my watch.
Plant-based living should fit into real life. It should fit into joy. It should fit into community. And it should absolutely fit into a summer night in the Bronx listening to Jay-Z.
Before the music starts, here are a few vegan and plant-forward options I’m planning to check out inside Yankee Stadium.
Count Me in for Plant-Based Living
The Avocado Maki Roll is a simple sushi classic made with avocado, sushi rice, nori, and sesame seeds. Pair it with warm edamame sprinkled with sea salt for a lighter plant-based option that still hits the spot.
If you’ve been following Black Girls Eat for a while, you already know this one caught my attention.
A vegan empanada? In the Bronx? Yes, please.
The Nuchas Vegan Pinto Bean Empanada features a spicy filling infused with cilantro and lime and comes with a side of salsa verde. It’s flavorful, easy to carry, and exactly the kind of food you want when you’re moving through a crowded stadium.
When you need something hearty, falafel always delivers. Those chickpeas bring the fiber and protein.
The Halal Guys’ falafel platter features crispy, seasoned chickpea patties served with yellow rice, lettuce, tomatoes, and warm pita bread. It’s a satisfying option for anyone looking for a plant-based meal with plenty of flavor.
Sometimes you want the classic stadium experience.
Bobby's Burgers at Yankee Stadium serves a signature veggie burger featuring a patty made of BBQ mushrooms, chickpeas, and quinoa.
One of the things I love about exploring plant-based options is realizing that some of our favorite foods have always been on the menu.
No special order required.
Some classic stadium snacks that fit the plant-based lifestyle include:
Soft pretzels
Peanuts
Popcorn
Cracker Jack
Yes, that iconic box of molasses-coated popcorn and peanuts is naturally plant-based. And I think you can still find a prize in the box! lol.
Because joy matters.
And yes, dessert counts.
For a sweet treat during a summer night at Yankee Stadium, look for:
Cotton candy
Lemon Chill Frozen Lemonade
Italian Ice
These dairy-free frozen treats are perfect for a warm evening and a reminder that plant-based eating doesn’t mean missing out on the fun stuff.
What I’m most excited about tonight isn’t just the concert.
It’s the reminder that plant-based living doesn’t have to happen only in your kitchen.
It can happen at SXSW.
It can happen at Yankee Stadium.
It can happen at the cookout, on vacation, at a festival, or anywhere else life takes you..
So tonight, as Jay-Z celebrates 30 years of Reasonable Doubt, I’ll be celebrating too—the fact that finding plant-based options in places we love is becoming easier, more creative, and yes… a whole lot more delicious.
I’ll report back after the show with my favorites of the night.
Until then, here’s to great music, great food, and a summer that proves you can absolutely be plant-based and joyful.
