The LA Jazz Festival was slated to bring 250,000 people to Los Angeles across two weeks, hosting dozens of free and ticketed concerts across the county’s 15 districts. That festival was canceled less than 24 hours before it was set to open in Leimert Park Village, leaving musicians and business-owners out to dry.
The number of “My plane just landed and I found out my gig was canceled” posts I’ve seen in the last few days have been so disheartening. In a recent article from LA Mag, the festival promised it’s lineup of 175 musicians that they would receive 50% of their fee upfront. Now, that money seems nowhere to be found.
The truth is, the cancellation is disrespectful to all of us. It’s disrespectful to Los Angeles, a city that has generations of jazz in its bones. The good news is that WE have a beautiful opportunity to support the musicians who are soundtracking our lives. LET’S DO IT TOGETHER!!
