Stoner girl report

I don’t smoke weed but I love stoner girls. In the very classic sense of admiring someone who can do something you can’t. Like how we love that Zendaya can stand around all day in 120mm Louboutins… Showing up stoned to a social gathering (or anywhere) is a personal nightmare, but I think it’s very impressive when women of note (my own or otherwise) do it. It also feels somehow vintage in a time of daily injectable use and ketamine…

This is on my mind because the inaugural American Style spring break series involved a lot of weed. So did the American Style College Questionnaire. So do the daily lives of various other young American Style characters… Teenagers getting high is normal, but I’ve been more attuned to weed in general since moving back to America. All the dispensaries in New York that look like stores you’d buy a funky baby tee from, stuck in lotus-eater 2020 avant-basic. Wurly geometric playpens. The sidewalk smells dank and no one raises an eyebrow. A certain Long Island high schooler I know is out of his mind off carts 24/7. Born-in-2000s beautiful girl Mazzy Joya’s petalspliff persona. I personally think kids are smoking more weed now that it’s more accessible and less illegal (data says girls are smoking weed more than boys for the first time ever too).

I also noticed that our spring break set eschewed traditional spring break ventures, like getting blackout on a beach.

With these thoughts in my mind, I interviewed the American Style spring breakers (who admittedly all attend liberal arts school) on the state of smoking weed, benders, and what Olive calls “hedonistic-bacchanalia-spring-break,” plus some bonus reporting on what’s drawing young girls to dress so cutely normal a la Aviator Nation.
