Hello everyone, I’m writing to you from Austin, Texas. I came here to hang out with my girls and attend the iHeart podcast awards, where Nymphet Alumni was nominated for the Best Beauty & Fashion Podcast of the year. We lost! In fabulous style…
On Saturday, we threw a party with Angel’s Herbal Cigarettes. I wore a Paloma Wool top, a J.Crew skirt, and Miista heels. It was a beautiful crowd. I’ve never been to Austin before, and honestly I didn’t expect to see so many people looking so good. But our listeners tend to be gorgeous and well-educated so I guess I’m not surprised afterall. The breeze at the wine bar was hitting just right when I decided to take a few photos of our guests, which ended up being a good idea because in typical Austin Slacker style, our photographer did not show up.
Katherine
Age: 24
Occupation: Software engineer
Her favorite thing about her outfit: Her blue suede pants and their long inseam
Katherine came early and had one of the best outfits I saw all night. She’s tall like me and looked so powerful and graceful in her Grecian one shoulder…
Amelia
Age: 27
Occupation: Producer
Her favorite thing about her outfit: That her shirt is in the shape of a handkerchief
Amelia is a fellow podcaster. We sat together at the awards, where she and her co-host Evan, also nominated, made us laugh all night. Her handkerchief top, which is actually knit, is from NUULY!
Breanna
Age: 25
Occupation: Software engineer
Her favorite thing about her outfit: Rowing Blazers x Target skirt, she waited for the drop
Breanna is an OG Nymphie! She came down from Dallas for the party. I loved her and her Rowing Blazers check.
Kat and Chloe
Age: Both 27
Occupation: Shop girls at Garment Modern + Vintage, they also both work on Locket fashion magazine
Their favorite thing about their outfits:
Kat: Jimmy Choo x Conner Ives cheetah boots
Chloe: Her Issey Miyake skirt
Kat gamely stepped up with her film camera when our event photographer didn’t show! I noticed her great white and black Chanel, my friend Ch’lita has the same one. She and Chloe work at a vintage designer store in Austin. I love meeting girls who really love clothes.
Thank you so much to everyone who came to our party (and who rooted for us at the awards). It was so fun and the bartender said that it was the busiest the place has ever been. Love you!
After the party, we went to a French restaurant called Justine’s. It reminded me of the Weimar Republic. The front dining room was cavernous and decorated like the bottom of the ocean for some reason.
Inside were a series of connecting rooms in which millennial and Gen X women wearing tight, old-fashioned jeans swung around the bar and talked with men and each other. They felt forever 25 — thin, strong and slightly feral. Women who never stopped being Shasta Fay, or maybe Joanna Newsom, even when they got married.
