Hope and Grace for New Mothers
Postpartum is a difficult season and I loved learning from this fantastic resource for new moms! Annie is the former editor of Risen Motherhood and writes with truth and grace. I loved chatting about these topics with her.
The eight “snapshots” or everyday postpartum tasks in the book:
feeding
changing
sleeping
soothing
washing
nurturing
praying
anticipating
How ordinary moments can point women back to Jesus and remind them that “As moms care for children, He cares for moms.”
Annie’s personal struggles with postpartum depression, anxiety, sleep deprivation, shame, and isolation—especially during COVID.
How Christ gently shepherds mothers in weakness and exhaustion.
The importance of community, vulnerability, church support, meals, prayer, and honest conversations during postpartum.
The spiritual significance of motherhood tasks like feeding and nurturing, and how Jesus is both our provider and the “bread of life.”
How postpartum changes a mother spiritually and emotionally, and how God uses weakness to deepen dependence on Him.
The challenge of constantly anticipating the “next stage” of motherhood and learning to trust God through every season.
Encouragement for pregnant women to prepare their hearts spiritually before the baby arrives.
Scriptures that sustained Annie through motherhood, especially:
Isaiah 40:11: “He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.”
Psalm 103:14: “For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.”
