2008: The idea of Bitcoin is first introduced in a paper titled "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System" authored by Satoshi Nakamoto. Read the whitepaper here.
2009: The Bitcoin network officially goes live with the mining of the first block, also known as the Genesis Block. The first-ever bitcoin transaction takes place between Satoshi Nakamoto and Hal Finney, a developer.
2010: The first Bitcoin exchange, BitcoinMarket.com, is established. The price of one bitcoin is about $0.003.
2011: The first major market crash occurs, with the price of one bitcoin dropping from $30 to $2.
2012: WordPress becomes the first major company to accept bitcoin as a form of payment.
2013: The value of one bitcoin reaches $1,000 for the first time.

2016: The value of one bitcoin surpasses $1,000 again, marking the start of a period of steady growth.
2017: The value of one bitcoin reaches $20,000, marking the peak of the most recent bull run.
2018: The value of one bitcoin drops below $4,000, marking the end of the bull run and the start of a bear market.
2019-2022: the crypto market experiences a steady growth and more adoption by institutional investors, the value of one bitcoin goes back to $30,000- $60,000
