As well as being British, Chinese, Iranian, or whatever, we are now all citizens of a much bigger place. It’s called the Anthroposphere, which incorporates – in relation to their influences and impacts on the Earth – the sum total of humanity, its habitats and its activities. Humankind’s signature is now scrawled across every nook and cranny of the planet, and almost everywhere it has been destructive, some of it cataclysmically so. Extraordinarily, in 2020, the weight of human-made ‘stuff ’ exceeded the weight of all life on Earth.
