Stream It This Week: TV Premieres May 4–10, 2026

Lord of the Flies (Netflix) New series: It’s already aired in Britain to rave reviews, and now Adolescence creator Jack Thorne’s Lord of the Flies adaptation makes its American debut. For the unread, Lord of the Flies is a 1954 novel by William Golding, about a group of English schoolboys stranded on a tropical island who quickly turn feral (there was also a 1990 movie that critics weren’t—wait for it—wild about). Star Wars: Maul—Shadow Lord (Disney+) Season 1 finale: This is the best Disney can do for May the Fourth (Be With You)? The season finale of a middling Star Wars animated series? Star Wars Day used to mean something, man.

Designed to Last (Hulu) New reality series: Maria Menounos hosts what could be the first reality-competition series to cash in on the steady collapse of Earth’s environment—happy Cinco de Mayo! Teams of architects, engineers, and inventors compete in 10-hour challenges to fortify homes against the threats of wind, water, ice, and fire; winners receive a $100,000 grant to develop their ideas further (or just build their own survival bunker).

Soccer’s American Dream (Vice) New docuseries: The six-part Soccer’s American Dream follows the sport’s 40-year battle to become a legitimate sport in the U.S., which all leads to the 2026 World Cup coming to an ICE-lousy America that’s less tolerant of brown-skinned foreigners than pretty much any other time in history. VOD movies rent/buy: The Drama (2026; rom-com), A Great Awakening (2026; drama), The Kids Are Not Alright (2026; documentary), Palestine 36 (2026; drama), The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026; animation/family)

Citadel (Prime Video) Season 2 premiere: The debut season of the Russo Brothers’ Citadel came with big hype in 2023, as well as a massive Amazon budget that went mostly toward keeping star Prianka Chopra Jonas’ hair perfectly in place during action sequences. The global spy thriller centers on the defunct espionage agency Citadel, which has been reactivated (by Stanley Tucci) to stop Manitcore, an evil syndicate bent on world domination (like Amazon, but without next-day shipping). Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows) joins the cast for Season 2, which should inject some desperately needed humor into this slick-but-staid affair. Citadel S2 trailer

M.I.A. (Peacock) New series: No, it’s not a rock-doc about the controversial Sri Lankan “Paper Planes” rapper—that’s already been done. This M.I.A., from Ozark co-creator Bill Dubuque, follows 20-something Etta’s (Shannon Gisela) journey to becoming a South Florida drug queenpin after the slaughter of her family, and exacting bloody revenge for said slaughter. The Terror: Devil in Silver (Shudder, AMC+) Season 2 premiere: Horror anthology series The Terror premiered waaay back in 2018—but if you saw it, you sure as hell remember it (if not, I’d recommend checking it out on AMC+ or Prime Video). Season 3’s story is based on Victor LaVelle’s novel The Devil in Silver, featuring Legion’s Dan Stevens as a man wrongly committed to a horrific psychiatric ward plotting his escape. The Terror: Devil in Silver also stars CCH Pounder, Judith Light, Aasif Mandvi, Marin Ireland, and John Benjamin Hickey, and Stephen Root (who’s currently killing it on Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay). Rooster (HBO, HBO Max) Season 1 finale: This one may be over, but Steve Carell’s Rooster has been picked up for a second season, so expect another round of collegiate laughs next year. Before then, a note for show creator Bill Lawrence: add more of Shrinking’s emotional bite, The Chair Company’s wildcard weirdness, and just nudity, in general. This is HBO, damnit!
