I feel bad for the folks at NBC/Peacock because the pitchers scheduled for this evening’s game they are broadcasting are pitching this afternoon instead. And, it is a great match-up. In fact, there is a chance that we are seeing the two 2026 Cy Young Award winners facing each other.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto (9-6, 2.85 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, 106 SO) vs. Cam Schlittler (9-5, 2.05 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 137 strikeouts). Yoshi on the season has a .192 BAA and a .564 OPSA. Cam leads the AL in ERA and is second with a .200 BAA and is third in strikeouts (137).

SPEAKING OF POTENTIAL CYA WINNERS…
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced that Shohei Ohtani will not make his start on Wednesday in Philadelphia. Roberts added they are “airing on the side of caution,” wanting to give Ohtani more time to heal his knee. The Dodgers do not have a date for Ohtani's next pitching start.
We are told that Shohei entered this season with the goal of winning a Cy Young Award. That is not going to happen now, unless he is beyond spectacular when he does return to the mound. He simply will not have enough innings pitched. To qualify for an ERA title, a pitcher must pitch at least 1 inning for every scheduled game their team plays. Ohtani has thrown 85.2 innings this season and needs to reach 162. He averages 6.0 innings per start and about one start a week. With 10 weeks left in the season, he needs about 13 starts of six innings each to reach the qualifying number, and time does not appear to be on his side.
Ohtani will be the DH for game 1 of the DH today, and Roberts will decide postgame for game 2.
