The Dodgers are the first team with 60 wins. Their magic number to win the NL is now 58. How balanced is this team? They have won 30 games at home and 30 games abroad. They picked up their 60th win last night in an 8-7, 11-inning win over the Rockies. It was their first extra-inning game of the season. Their streak of 90 consecutive games to start the season was the longest in National League history. The record is held by the 2005 Red Sox, who did not play extras until July 25, 2005, their 99th game.
Cam Schlittler is the first pitcher in MLB history with an ERA below 1.05 and 80+ K in his first 11 road games of a season.
Lowest ERA in the first 17 road starts of MLB career (since ERA became official in both leagues in 1913): Paul Skenes - 1.35 (2024-25 Pirates), George Culver - 1.58 (1968 Reds), and Cam Schlittler - 1.59 (2025-26).
Schlittler’s 2.01 ERA is the lowest by a Yankees pitcher in his first 19 starts of a season since 1984 Phil Niekro (1.88).
Justin Wrobleski is one of five NL starters with 10 wins.
He and Christopher Sanchez, who is being touted as the AL-Star Game starter for the NL, both have ERAs of 2.62, good for 7th in the NL.
Wrobleski has a 1.00 WHIP compared to Sanchez’s 1.16.
Wrobleski has a .216 BAA compared to Sanchez’s .248.
Wrobleski’s .583 OPSA is the third best in the NL, behind only Jacob Misorowski and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Of all Qualified Starters in the NL, Wrobleski has walked the fewest batters, just 17, a walk rate of just 6.3%.
Scoring in every inning is pretty rare. Even rarer than a perfect game. Only 21 teams in major league history have accomplished the feat, and there have been 24 perfect games. Christopher Sánchez went into this game with a 2.00 ERA and left with a 2.62 ERA.
Even when they win, they don’t hit. Last night, the Yankees beat the Rays, 5-1, in an early critical series between the two AL East leaders. The Yankees had three hits: two home runs by José Caballero and one by Ben Rice. The Yankees struck out 17 times against four Tampa Bay pitchers. This was the 10th time this season that the Yankees have been held to three hits or fewer, and the first one they have won. Half of those games have come since June 26.
The Yankees have not scored more than five runs in 18 straight games. Before this streak, they had scored 5+ runs 38 times.
Walker Buehler of the Padres came into July with a not-awful 3.81 ERA. As of today, it is a truly awful 5.01. How does that happen, you ask? On July 1, facing the Cubs, Buehler threw 4.0 innings and allowed nine runs on seven hits. Then, last night, while facing Arizona, threw 5.0 innings and allowed 7 runs on 7 hits.
Apparently, once again, the baseballs have been changed. We don’t know whether it is intentional or unintentional, but they are definitely different from the balls used earlier in the season. The very smart duo of Eno Sarris and Evan Drellich wrote about this in The Athletic, and in their article, they pointed out, “Data shows the changes in drag, and the corresponding surge in batted ball distance, began around the start of June, and players say they have noticed that something is different.”
