There are certain days on the calendar that simply feel made for our industry. Race mornings, packet pick-ups, first long runs of a training cycle, the first cool morning after a long Georgia summer… and, of course, Global Running Day.
For those of us at Big Peach Running Co., Global Running Day has become one of our favorite celebrations of the year. It is a day to remember that this sport, and this community, belongs to everyone.
A Brief History of Global Running Day
Global Running Day officially launched in 2016, growing from what was previously known as National Running Day in the United States. The idea was straightforward: create a shared moment each year when runners around the world could celebrate the sport, invite others into it, and recognize the power of movement.
What started as a national celebration quickly became something much larger. Running stores, race organizations, brands, clubs, schools, workplaces, families, and individual runners began using the day as an invitation. Some people logged serious miles. Some ran around the block. Some walked. Some signed up for their first race. Some simply made the decision to begin again.
Global Running Day has never been about how fast you are. It has never been about how far you go. It is about the act of showing up and moving forward.
Over time, that message has helped reshape running culture. The sport is still full of competitive energy, personal goals, finish lines, and big dreams — and we love that part of it. But it is also full of first-timers, walkers, run/walkers, families, recovery miles, stroller miles, social miles, and people who are simply trying to build a healthier rhythm. When running becomes more welcoming, more people find their way to it.
Why Global Running Day Still Matters
At its best, running does more than improve fitness. It creates connection.
It gives people a reason to meet togwthwe, stay accountable, explore their neighborhoods, support local races, and encourage one another through hard seasons. It turns strangers into training partners. It turns sidewalks into gathering places. It turns a few miles into a routine, and a routine into a lifestyle.
For the Atlanta running community, that sense of connection is especially meaningful. We are fortunate to live in a city full of movement — group runs, local races, neighborhood routes, trail systems, BeltLine miles, and community events that continue to make running feel more accessible and more enjoyable.
At Big Peach, we see it every day. Someone comes in because they are training for their first 5K. Someone else is coming back after an injury. Another guest is trying to get healthier. Another is chasing a marathon goal. Another is joining a friend for a run and just needs the right shoes to feel comfortable getting started.
Different stories. Different paces. Same community.
Join Us in Dunwoody for Global Running Day
This year, we are excited to celebrate Global Running Day in Dunwoody, and we would love for you to be part of it.
We will be joined by an incredible group of brand partners, including Altra, Balega, Brooks, On, OOFOS, Feetures, and HOKA. Each of these brands brings something meaningful to the running experience, whether it is footwear, socks, recovery, comfort, education, or simply the kind of energy that makes a community event feel special.
We will also have a food truck on-site, along with King of Pops, because a good run becomes even better when there is a reason to linger afterward. And truly, that is part of the point. Global Running Day is not just about logging miles and heading home. It is about gathering. It is about conversation. It is about celebrating the people who make this sport what it is.
Whether you are coming to run, walk, reconnect with friends, meet a brand partner, ask a few product questions, or simply be around the energy of the local running community, we hope you will join us.
At Your Pace
Some will come ready to run hard. Some will come for an easy shakeout. Some will walk. Some will bring a friend who has never been to a running event before. All of it counts. The goal is not comparison. The goal is participation.
That has always been one of the great truths of running. Yes, there are watches and splits and finish times. But underneath all of that, there is something much simpler: one foot in front of the other, repeated often enough to become something meaningful.
So, if you have been waiting for a reason to start, let this be it. If you have drifted from your routine, let this be the invitation back. If you are already running consistently, bring someone with you. Help them feel what this community can be.
We would be honored to celebrate Global Running Day with you in Dunwoody.
