Patt & I have been off on another adventure. Guess where the pic below was taken before reading ahead.
We were in Key West last week. The weather was perfect and this is a bit of a lull time after the holidays so things weren’t too crowded.
Patt went off on a seaplane to Fort Jefferson-Dry Tortugas National Park while I hung out people watching on Duvall Street. We’ve been there a couple of times before so I bowed out. It’s a truly amazing though with Civil War history and a unique connection to Ernest Hemmingway. Certainly it’s one of the hardest parks to get to being some 70 miles west of Key West out into the Gulf of Mexico.
We visited the Hemmingway mansion, the grounds of which is populated with scores of polydactyl cats. The many kitties are quite comfortable around strangers so Patt took time out to get in some lap sitting with a few of them.
We also visited the Harry Truman Little White House and Fort Zachary Taylor. Both were amazing and real attraction for any history nerd like me.
The highlight of the week was attending Asleep At The Wheel’s show at the Key West Theater. We were traveling with Barb Kuhns and Doug Smith and it happened that Doug was invited to demonstrate his roping skills on stage during the encore! I hadn’t seen AATW for many years and if anything they’ve just gotten better and tighter. Doug was incredible with his rope tricks.
We’re finishing up our trip on the Gulf Coast of Florida before heading home. Judging from the weather predictions for next week in the Upper Midwest we’re going to get a rude awakening when we return!
