The Community Center for the Arts in Urbana, IL, is presenting a workshop this Saturday, October 25, from 3-5 PM with me, Illinois master fiddler Charlie Walden and my Illinois Arts Council protégé Samantha Korte, and accompanists Patt Plunkett and Blake Korte. During the course of their mentor-apprentice relationship Samantha and I have worked on Illiinois and Missouri fiddle tunes as well as developing traditional country music fiddle techniques. Samanatha is a member of numerous performing groups, most notably The New Prairie Drifters based in Edwardsville, in which she performs as fiddler and vocalist.
The workshop will demonstrate strategies for playing country and Bluegrass fiddle as well as teach a regional old-time fiddle tune or two. Audience participation is encouraged so bring your instruments!
