Lindsey (wife) and I (husband).
And, really, our whole family…because 90% of the good ideas come from our daughters.
95%.
We have officially started creating children’s books, something we’ve wanted to do for years. For me, my whole life.
It’s an incredible feeling to finally act on it.
Now! Technically, last week. We sent our first book to a number of agents, hoping for a bite.
(Status: as of today, May 6, 2025, we sent our first book around to agents last week… fingers crossed).
From our home office studio.
Why are we writing Substack posts to an audience of zero? I dunno. It’s good practice.
Why are we committing ourselves to creating children’s books?
This is the big one. This isn’t a plan or a collaboration that we’ve come to lightly. Or quickly.
After years of talking and trying and learning, it became clear that this is the path that combines our values, our skills and our interests.
I love how Lindsey describes the meaning of life: “to be your true self and to help others be theirs.” As parents, that’s very immediately true for our own family. We want to help love and raise and prepare our daughters so they live life as a fully realized version of themselves.
That’s a tall order, and god knows we aren’t going to do it (anywhere near) perfectly. But after 40 years on earth, there are ideas and stories we want to tell our girls. Maybe they find a scrap of value in some of them.
And if our girls find a scrap, maybe others will, too.
By telling these stories, by creating these books, by putting ourselves out there a little bit, we’re taking our own small steps towards being our true selves. So even if Jon-Klassen-rockstar-levels of fame and fortune don’t follow, we feel like we’re on the right track.
