Humdrum: Writing is Thinking

So! We’ve built Humdrum.

My wife and I.

Writing is thinking. AI can do both for us. But it’s very important we continue to do both for ourselves.

Humdrum is a creative safe space for kids to grow a love of writing. Our hope is that by making writing easier to start, and fun and rewarding to continue, we can help kids form an authentic writing habit.

And that will in turn help kids form a foundation for independent thought.

Lindsey (wife!) is an ex-English teacher, and I am an (ex?) brand designer. We’ve joined forces to share stories and help others do the same.

Humdrum came out of an ongoing creative writing club Lindsey created for our daughters. We want our own daughters to not only write more, but connect with writing. Whether its journaling or funny little stories or poetry, the act of writing is such an incredibly powerful, human thing.

The more we write, the more we think.

We notice. We articulate. We reflect. We update our understanding.
Repeat.

I never wrote anything besides emails until very recently. Journaling has been an incredible unlock in my life. Sitting down and just tapping out a weird little rough story that I’ve had in my head for years is an incredible feeling. Reading poetry and connecting with it! Its hard to overstate the positive impact of these seemingly small things.

I find myself wondering why on earth it took me so long to try this writing thing out. I always thought I hated writing. It was always reports and run on sentences and red marks.

What if I had connected with writing 30 years earlier?
