Hi there!
We are Renata and Mateusz, or the BiciCats, a Portuguese-Polish bike travelling duo!
Mateusz is from Gdynia, Poland. He's a naval engineer by trade and education, but after 3 years of work in the field he traded the office chair for a bike seat. He started travelling to find himself on the journey, ended up finding Renata. Still on the search for himself. He's a gear-head, loves everything bike related, optimizing his ride for the adventures and trying new bike gadgets and camping gear. He is an amateur bike mechanic and recently an even more amateur travel filmmaker.
Renata is from Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. She studied Psychology but in her last job she worked as a Software Developer. She travels to be outside and believes the best experiences happen to us when we are out exploring. For that reason she jumped from commuting in Lisbon to exploring Iceland by bike alone. Lately she's been getting back into an old passion - photography - trying her best to document our adventures.
We both started our nomadic careers as solo cycle travellers. Renata started an ambitious journey from the southernmost point of continental Europe, Tarifa, to the northernmost one, Nordkinn. At the same time, Mateusz was on his own epic journey around Europe and the Middle East.
One day, on the way to Valencia in Spain our paths crossed, and we discovered a shared passion for bikes, outdoors and adventures and decided to travel together for a while. But a few days later, in Barcelona, Renata's bike was stolen. Dealing with that drama and the joy in recovering Alma connected us on a deeper level, and we've been riding through life arm in arm ever since.
After many shared adventures over the past two years (which feel more like five when you are together all the time) we decided to get married! An international wedding was an adventure in and of itself - but that's a story for another post...
So for our honeymoon we decided to go all out and go on a trip to the other side of the world!
Right now we are in the planning stages and soon we will be facing the roads and the waters (when needed) of Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia to in the end, hopefully, reach New Zealand.
Over the past two years we documented our trips in many photos and videos, but we never had the time to go through them and share them with the world. That changes now!
We just released our first video! It's a documentary of our journey around Iceland at the end of the last year's winter. You can watch it on YouTube.
