Over the past couple of years, as I have gotten more involved with AI, what has struck me the hardest is how AI cannot make obvious inferences from what is going on to what needs to happen next. The creative leap is impossible for AI. The art of writing prompts is very frustrating because you have to phrase a prompt in ways a smart animal can understand. A child has far more creativity than AI.
We are told how fast and how smart AI is, and that it far exceeds human capabilities. So what? I remember when I was getting into cars and hot rods in the late 1950s I read an article which categorically stated that we had already reached the limits of adhesion and that we would never have dragsters who could go faster than 175 miles per hour from a standing start in a quarter mile. They were serious. At that time, at about 15 years old, I was convinced.
Yet now, dragsters commonly go much faster than 300 mph in a quarter mile. Currently the figure is 336.15 mph, set by Tony Schumacher in Top Fuel. A rocket dragster on the Mohave salt flats did quickest quarter-mile pass by a dragster, the famous run is 3.22 seconds at 396 mph by Kitty O’Neil. We think nothing of this. It’s just machinery we built. For another example, we know it takes over 25,000 miles per hour to escape the earth’s gravity and fly to the Moon. But we don’t worship those machines or claim they are better than humans.
But remember, originally a computer was a person who did calculations. The following is a quote from Perplexity:
The most famous NASA “human computers” from the Space Race were Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson. They were part of the West Area Computing group at Langley and helped calculate trajectories, launch windows, and re-entry paths for early U.S. space missions.
Other notable human computers included Melba Roy at Goddard, and NASA’s early computing sections had many other women whose work supported Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo.
Katherine Johnson became the best-known of them because she checked the orbital calculations for John Glenn’s flight and helped with Apollo-era trajectory work.
Obviously, digital computers have far exceeded human abilities. This Mac Mini M4 I am working on has quite a bit more computing power than anything [probably everything] in the Apollo space mission program. Actually, my iPhone does also.
I’ve written a few times already that Creation—the universe created by the Father to hold us, and give us a place we can live, is amazing. The human being is the pinnacle of creation. We are created in the image of God Himself.
Angels are second. I’ve mentioned a few times that it seems to me that angels have the same place in creation that robots and computers do in human civilization. Angels are much smarter, more powerful, larger, faster, and on and on. But angels are not made in the image of God. They don’t have a standard appearance but range from a wheel within a wheel to looking like a human. Here’s the description of the four living creatures Ezekiel saw: [Chapter 1:4-14]
As I looked, behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, and a great cloud, with brightness round about it, and fire flashing forth continually, and in the midst of the fire, as it were gleaming bronze. 5 And from the midst of it came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had the form of men, 6 but each had four faces, and each of them had four wings. 7 Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the sole of a calf’s foot; and they sparkled like burnished bronze. 8 Under their wings on their four sides they had human hands. And the four had their faces and their wings thus: 9 their wings touched one another; they went every one straight forward, without turning as they went. 10 As for the likeness of their faces, each had the face of a man in front;[a] the four had the face of a lion on the right side, the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and the four had the face of an eagle at the back.[b]11 Such were their faces. And their wings were spread out above; each creature had two wings, each of which touched the wing of another, while two covered their bodies. 12 And each went straight forward; wherever the spirit would go, they went, without turning as they went. 13 In the midst of[c] the living creatures there was something that looked like burning coals of fire, like torches moving to and fro among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. 14 And the living creatures darted to and fro, like a flash of lightning.
And they appeared to ride upon something called a wheel within a wheel, and the wheel’s rim was filled with eyes. Later it says the sound was like
the sound of many waters, like the thunder of the Almighty, a sound of tumult like the sound of a host
I live near Niagara Falls, and I know the sound of many waters. It makes the earth shake. It’s on the level of a rocket launching into deep space.
The four living creatures around the throne are also angels, right?
And round the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind: 7 the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like a flying eagle. 8 And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all round and within, and day and night they never cease to sing,
“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,
who was and is and is to come!”
They are a lesser being than we are. Soon, we will be one with the Father, like Yeshua Messiah is now. That’s the promise of the Marriage of the Lamb. We will judge angels.
Angels are a fancy being. Very impressive they are. But they are specially designed servants of the Lord. This is true of fallen angels, as well. Remember, if they could actually kill you—you’d be dead. For they hate us. They cannot do anything without getting permission from the Lord. He uses them to test and train us. He had good uses for a set of bad guys under His control. Even Satan himself is on a very short leash. Read the first couple chapters of Job.
AI is just a fancy machine. Impressive it is. But treat it like the specially designed tool it is. It is not alive and cannot be either good or evil. Good or evil comes from the operators of AI. Often it seems close to giving an experienced bicycle rider a Norton Commander 850 or a Kawasaki H2 Mach IV and telling them, “It’s just like riding a bike. But be careful it’s got a lot of power.”
Humans outthink AI all the time. AI cannot figure things out. It can just make the best guess at what the next word or move might be. It does that with amazing speed. But it makes stupid errors without having a clue. It is very frustrating to try and get AI to understand what you need. The simplest things are simply outside of its understanding. I mean it’s obvious what Joe would do. He was my best friend in high school. I told you why we were friends. You know what friends are like. Nope, AI has no clue about things like that. Its most dangerous ability is lying convincingly. It doesn’t know right from wrong. It will state its findings with authority. Plus, it is a flatterer. You need to correct it and help the machine do what you need to be done.
The problem is the people producing the code to run AI. And next are the people actually using AI. The problem is the people. Keep your instructions clear and clean. Ask the Lord to help you. Compared to DNA and the human mind, AI is primitive. The Lord can give you anointed prompts. But you need His help. It’s a dangerous machine in the hands of a fool.
The Lord has some of His people using AI powerfully. Scott Townsend comes to mind immediately. But you can be assured that there are many more. People like Sergio DeSoto and She’s So Scripture are using AI to help them create Hebraic study tools, for example.
AI works for you and it needs constant direct supervision. It is up to you and your team to make sure it is kept on the path you need it to follow. It will not know when it makes a mistake, or it will misunderstand what that mistake is. But it is a wonderful tool in the hands of its master. You need the help of yours to run it well. Start with prayer and walk in the Spirit. The Lord knows enough to warn you if things start heading the wrong way.
