A Prayer For The Night

Dear Father,

Tonight I come to pray for the night itself—and for whoever is reading this.

If you ever feel a little different when the sun goes down, if the coming of night brings anxious thoughts to visit your mind, I pray, Lord Jesus, that You would guard the night and guard their heart.

Where the darkness brings anxiety, would You bring peace. Where it brings restlessness, would You bring rest. Instead of dividing our thoughts, let the night gather them up and quiet them before You.

Lord, You have given us a Sabbath rhythm—a rest woven into the very design of our days. You made the night so we could close our eyes and let go, trusting the quiet work that You do while we sleep, cleansing what was toxic and heavy from the day, restoring what was worn thin.

So I pray over the night: BLESS IT.

Fill it with Your peace. Let it be exactly what You designed it to be—a time of rejuvenation, renewal, and rest.

Whatever I carry from this day, I place it into Your hands and into the night You’ve made. Like opening my palms and setting it all down, I release it. I close my eyes and trust.

I hope as I lean into sleep, knowing You will work it all out.

Like the parable of the growing seed—the farmer scatters seed on the ground, and he sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how (Mark 4:26–29)—give me that same peace of mind. That same rest. That same trust and faith to sleep while You keep working.

I love You, Jesus. Bless my night more than You ever have. Teach me to have a good relationship with the night.

I love You.

Amen.

“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.” — Psalm 4:8
